Talking Flash Cards Phonics Kit

We have added four more Phonics Kits, now totaling seven, after receiving a generous grant from the Rotary Club of Cary-Grove. These Kits can help beginning readers learn the basics and gain confidence on their reading journey. The newly added Kits are:

  • Sight WordsSight words are commonly used words that readers can recognize instantly, without having to sound out each letter or decode them. This Kit has 4 fun games and flashcards that will help your child in their reading journey. Choose the level your child needs, as the Kit includes sight words from preschool to third grade. See this Kit in the catalog.
  • Blends and DigraphsThis kit contains first-grade level and up card games, matching games, dominoes, and books designed to reinforce beginning and ending consonant blends and digraphs. Consonant blends are two or three consonants that appear next to each other in a word, blending their sounds to create a new sound (like “br,” “cl,” “sk,” and “spl”). A consonant digraph is two consonants that are placed next to each other to create a single consonant sound (like “ch,” “sh,” “the,” and “wh”). See this Kit in the catalog.
  • Long Vowel e WordsLong vowel CVCe words are words that have a consonant, vowel, consonant, and a silent “e” at the end. The vowel in the middle of the word makes a long vowel sound, while the “e” is silent. Some examples of CVCe words include: “note,” “tape,” “fine,” “cake,” and “cute.” This Kit contains first-grade and up decodable cards, puzzles, dominoes, books, and a flip board. See this Kit in the catalog.
  • Talking Flash CardsThis Kit is a handheld game for ages 3 and up that helps children learn vocabulary. Kids will place flashcards into the game and hear the word spoken. 19 different topics, like clothing, sports, foods, and nature, can enhance your child’s pronunciation and help them learn the meaning of these words. See this Kit in the catalog.

Find all of the Phonics Kits along the wall between the windows in the Children’s Area. The Kits checkout for three weeks and are renewable once if no holds are pending.
