This fall, staff has been busy adding colored tape to the spines of the Readers collection to help caregivers identify the right book for their beginning reader. Yellow tape is for kids who are starting to read on their own and include simple words and sentences to build confidence. Green tape is for kids who are ready to start reading stories but are still building their skills. Lastly, the orange tape is for kids who feel confident to read independently. There is some overlap between the levels, but they should help you get started. (Don’t worry—you won’t need to remember all of this as we have a guide on the top of the reader shelves.) Please be patient as we finish this work.
Also, CAPL recently received a grant from the Rotary Club of Cary-Grove to expand our Phonics Kit collection for beginning readers. The project was spearheaded by Youth Services staffers Andi and Laurie, with help from Hannah, our Community Engagement Liaison. Sue from the Rotary Club presented the check in early October. We should have the additional Kits ready for borrowing this winter, so stay tuned for that announcement!
